Fasting:the key to a long, healthy and vigorous life?Hi Liveleak, I want to address important health issues
 Part of channel(s): Yoursay (promoted)

the topic of longevity is sadly neglected in the YS section. I feel its probably the most important issue facing us..how to live to an advanced age in vigorous health and I believe Fasting, going without food a day or so each week, is the key.

    • @Zipperneck1321 it doesn't take a physician to see that it is going to add to your life span. Sex makes most people happy, happy people live longer. It's those damn wife and kids that suck the life out of you.

  • there may be some more to this actually, I know scientists have been looking at a specific island in Japan where the people regularly live to 100+. They think it has a lot to do with the way they are brought up in their food habits, they say that they only eat until they are about 70% full and not stuffed. This tricks the body into thinking there may be an impending famine so the immune system boosts itself.

I wouldn't really suggest a complete fast... I eat small snacks usually instead of huge More..

  • I worked at Eli Lilly part-time in college and one of the VP's was friends with the guy I worked for. He'd come join us for coffee a few times a week. One day the guy mentioned he only ate one small meal a day and nothing else. At that time, I had really never heard of anybody doing that. As a young college kid who consumed large quantities of beer and pizza in between my other 4 or 5 meals a day, I couldn't even comprehend somebody doing that.

This VP had access to a mountain of medical st More..

  • I'll keep to a healthy diet and regular exercise and pass on the fasting. Although there are science fact that state you can extend your life longevity in both years and looks. When you fast the hormones that produce anti-aging push out more rapidly. I don't feel the need to fast, because there is alternate methods of living a long healthy life.

Your way is being under nutrition without malnutrition. I read somewhere they did a test in the 30-40's with a worm making it fast for periods. It bel More..

  • I don't worry at all about longevity. My Aunt Margaret lived to 102 and for the last ten years of her life she actually wished for death to come for her. My father lived to 93 and it chewed him up to outlive his friends and lose his vitality and eyesight. I'd like to remain in decent health so that I'm never a burden to my family. But I don't feel any need to live much longer than the old "three score and ten".

    • @john1054 I'm concerned for my own well-being, I have no idea what my genes will present me in the future (adopted). The doctor told my parents (I was 6 weeks old at the time) I was going to have no issues.... but not sure I believe that.

  • This guy happens to be right. Look at every old person you know or see, are any of them fat? Do you know anyone over 80 who is fat? I don't.

Our bodies really need very little food to be healthy. You can eat just about anything", my mom, a nurse told me, "but in moderation". Now when you eat a whole pizza by yourself plus half a chocolate cake, you may just want to lie down. Meanwhile your internal organs are running a marathon! Your stomach is working. Your heart and kid More..

Thin and short. Ever see a really old person, like 100 plus who was tall?

Not just talking about how people shrink some in old age. People who live to be really old were always kind of short in life too.

    • @Rikki_Tikki_Tavi Then why don't midgets all live to be 100?

    • @Eva_Destruction

Midgets or dwarfism or little people or whatever, most maladies like that are caused by a couple hundred distinct medical conditions. Many of which and a combination of which will often lead to a reduce lifespan.

Midgets that are proportionate usually have a normal lifespan. though it varies greatly.

What I'm talking about are people who are considered shorter than tall people. They seem to be longer lived. I mean when is the last time you've seen some 6'6" guy living More..
