Katrina was a small taste of what is in store for our country. It was a good practice run for the gov to see how they can control us with fear. Many law abiding citizens where disarmed during katrina in a gunpoint nazi type fashion.
Sounds as if they really were turned away at gunpoint when the man said "they did their job protecting the interests of the government and maintained the base".
As a veteran this disturbs me. These are the people we are supposed to be protecting, they weren't enemies of the state they were victims of a disaster and were seeking shelter in a facility that our tax dollars pay for.....
on humanitanian grounds they should have let them in whats the use of having an empty building when the ppl who pay the countries taxes have to sleep in the street.

No.
How does this mans lack of prepardness, failure to heed evacuation orders and lack of intelligence all of a sudden become an emergency on the part of a branch of the Federal Government?
There are strict laws in place pertaining to, and the limiting of, the Federal governments involvement and responsibilities in States matters. That's If I remember correctly, 4th grade Civics/Government class.
I was there with a State Urban Search and Rescue Team (USAR/TF-1)so I know what happend. It was the State Government of Gov. Blanco and Mayor Nagin who FAILED to notify and ask the Federal Govt for emergency response. Thousands of relief trucks, rescue first responders (many volunteers) who were forced to wait on the Interstate 10 freeway because they lacked an official request that must be made by the Governor and Mayor Nagin. They have admitted already thier errors and one of the reasons Gov Blanco didnt run afain in the next election. She is to blame. Louisiana is one of the few states that that require huge amounts of Federal assistance where other states refuse it.The Federal Goverment CANNOT act without formal invitation. Our Constitution forbids it. It would be like the Federal Govt is invading it.
Posse Comitatus is another.
Take Texas as an example, they always stand us down with the reply, "We are here, we got it and you can all go home now. Thank you"
Remember folks, during these major disasters, you are on your own if you dont heed evacuation orders.Your lack of prepardness and failure to heed warnings does not automatically constitute an emergency response on our part. You are not the only one needing help.Your situation is most likely better than others if you can stand and ***** while pointing fingers. Make sure you elect the correct leaders to govern you...your very life may depend on it. Lootie and the blowfish-Mayor Nagin Nagins Submerged Busses after Katrina

Again, that had NOTHING to do with the Federal Government. That was ordered by Mayor Nagin to be acted on by New Orleans Police. No such Federal disarming of individuals took place outside of Nagins purview.

"We had to do our job and protect the interest of the government"

Up until the late 1920's, they actually hunted Aboriginals for sport.

See my other comments. I was there. Federal response was slowed by the inaction of State Government leaders like Gov Blanco and NOLA Mayor Nagin.
