The owner thinks it's funny, until the dog gets a piece of the mailman's finger. When I was a mailman, and had a dog like this on my route, I'd find the most important-looking piece of mail for that address (hopefully a nice fat check), hold it tight, stick it halfway through the slot, let the dog get a grip, and then rip it in half from my side and drop the piece into the slot.
