VANCOUVER, Wash. -- A Vancouver man was arrested Sunday after police say he tried to kidnap a teenage girl at gunpoint while she was jogging.
The 15-year-old was jogging alone 142nd Ave. when a stranger pulled up next to her, pulled out a loaded gun, and told her to get into the car, police said.
John Hilbert saw it happen from his Battle Ground home.
"He had her pinned off the side of the road," said Hilbert. "I heard her scream and she said "help".
The girl ran toward Hilbert, yelling that the man had a gun. Hilbert dialed 9-1-1 and gave police a description of the suspect and his truck while his girlfriend comforted the shaken teen.

Hilbert said the Clark County deputies arrived within minutes, and arrested 27-year-old Matthew Lee Ortiz 15 minutes later.
Officers said they found zip tie restraints, camouflage clothing, a ski mask and a loaded gun inside his pickup.
Battle Ground Police Sergeant Jason Perdue said that since Ortiz had no record of prior offenses, it would have been difficult to catch him without Hilbert's quick action.
"Had it not been for him standing there and getting a good description of the vehicle as it was leaving, we may not have found the suspect," said Perdue.
"Maybe I was supposed to be there so she didn't get hurt," said Hilbert.
Ortiz was lodged in the Clark County jail on attempted kidnapping and assault charges
