  • Good job on the history lesson. I almost didn't read it but I'm glad I did. I can't believe I'm the first comment on this. And, Yes I saw it coming a few years ago. 9/11 was not our first warning. But it seems the public has a short memory. Also there's a thing in psychology called "Normalcy Bias" which means people just don't think some things can happen until it does, and then when it does happen they freak and and re-act instead of act. I hope Thomas Jefferson was right when he sai More..

  • Just a minor historical note on this one sided list.

A bit after incident '77' The Crusaders attacked Jerusalem. As is recorded:

"Jews were among the most vigorous defenders of Jerusalem against the Crusaders. When the city fell, the Crusaders placed all the Jews in Jerusalem inside the city's synagogue and then burned it down"

If this list was honest it would cover all events of significance. Many of these are Crusader against Muslim & Jew. Then again many are X against Y. Thes More..

  • It's not that one sided, for the most part Christianity spread because of the Roman/Byzantine empire, it was not spread through military conquest in most of Europe unlike the faith in question here, it was spread through dialogue (granted in a few cases the Eastern Christians and the Muslims lived happily side by side, the leadership just changed but for the most part the list is spot on). People need to do their homework though, the crusades were originally launched to help the remnants of the More..

    • There is also the bit about Tartars scrapping over the area at the same time. Something I didn't know till today.

The whole area (Mediterranean and environs), turn of the millenium, was the roam of turks, tartars, mongols, byzantines, romans, and uncle-tom-cobley-and-all.

The general story I read is that Salladin sorted the place out and pax-muslimica was the result for quite a long time.

    • For the most part yes, though the compromise Saladin made with Richard III pretty much bolstered Jerusalem's population with Christians of various ethnicities, even today around 30% of people of Palestinian descent are of a Christian background, assuming some sort of historical continuity it's highly likely these Islamic empires etc had an equal number if not more Christians in them. Then there's the issue of Europe and Asia's relatively large nomadic population who are very rarely taken into ac More..

  • why stop at 1091?

In 1300 the Indonesians invited Muslim shipping merchants to spend the weekend there. 300 years later, Indonesia became an Islamic state. The natives either converted or vanished into history. Today it is the largest Islamic population. more than the entire Middle East. The natives are to this day, living on one tiny island. In essence, in 300 short years, their entire civilization was exterminated.
Take note, Britain, France & the Netherlands.

  • it all depends on what works, if Islam does, fine because in the end we are all One and we will have to fix what we break. The up side is that it will be done, no worries about that.
