  • It's a Cirrus SR22. It's the modern day “fork-tailed doctor killer”, i.e. Beechcraft Bonanza.

    • @Wookiewoo I am a pilot and does seem like many of the sr22 aircraft do crash. I never understand why the mishap pilots do not deploy the Cirrus Airframe Parachute?

    • @brensmith

I've been flying since 1976 (commercial)... I've noted that private pilots who can afford expensive, new aircraft are among the worst and should not be allowed to fly: most seem to feel that they don't need to fully learn or practice emergency procedures (doctors and dentists are the worst of the worst, that's why the Bonanza had a high accident rate). The attitude is that because they are wealthy, they can do no wrong, so they feel they are excellent pilots. When a real emergency p More..

    • @brensmith I recall reading about one Cirrus parachute deployment at altitude with a safe touch down after (I think) a control cable broke. It seems that a lot of pilots simply fly the Cirrus into the ground. Given the fog in this video I suspect a terrain awareness system would have saved the day. Dead Pilots Don't Lie, http://stevewilsonblog.com/2009/04/16/dead-pilots-dont-lie.aspx, is an interesting read as it relates to the fatality rate associated with the Cirrus.

    • @brensmith...I recall about a Cirrus SR20/22 had a cabin fire and the pilot deployed the Airframe parachute. They were all toast when the aircraft gently touched the ground.

  • Working in a town next to a huge airforce base (Robins Airforce Base) I'm happily surprised I've never had to answer calls out their for this. Watch over the medics in Germany, we may not share patient safety policies, but we share the same agenda.

Cheers from a retarded EMT over seas!

  • The technical term for this aircraft type is "crash site"... after which it will be downgraded to "scrap aluminum".

  • Looks like the fog did'em in. That and poor navigation.
The BRS could have saved them if they had deployed it while lost in IMC.
This is a very strong airplane with excellent occupant crash protections built in but it takes a lot of guts and fore planning to pull that BRS handle.
