Photographs From The Mexican-American War(1846-1848): The Birth of War Photography
I would say that the holy grail of photography research would be to find the names of the people who went to Mexico to capture most of these images. As of now, their names are lost to history.

Very primitive.
I have a tourist portrait of myself and a marine buddy taken on a street in Tijuana in 1986 by some street vendor with a large format camera on an old wooden tripod as he shrouded himself with a black cloth behind the camera and the plate was developed in plastic five gallon buckets right there in his wagon on the street. Looks much the same, even a few scratches. Nothing like the amount of scratches seen in these photos but the foggy edges are the same and overall opaqueness to More..

there was an excavation of Taylors campsite in Corpus Christi this weekend, but i didnt make it down there. im about 5 miles south of where the "horse marines" incident took place in the Texas Revolution. Great post, i had never seen most of those photos.

Some of the small towns in Mexico still look like this....150 years and our politicians have not rebuilt the infrastructure....
