Once again it has happened the Nobel Peace Prize is awarded to a winner who today is almost exclusively associated with unemployment, economic and social crisis, rearmament and war policy. A scandalous award in line with the award of the prize to Kissinger, who in 1973 took part in the bombing of Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam, and supported and approved the military coup in Chile that year.

European big business worked from the mid 1950's with plans and processes that would lead to the United States of Europe, which would ensure better conditions for transnational monopoly companies in Europe. To achieve broader support for the project it was also presented as important for peace in Europe. European colonial powers have not fought against each other as members of the EU, but the EU has actively contributed to the strengthening of the contradictions and fragmentation of Yugoslavia supported the US-NATO war policy: EU approved the bombing of Yugoslavia, wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and the bombing of Libya 2011 under the pretense to save civilians.


The EU is an undemocratic, Many member countries are in deep economic and social crisis. Millions of people, especially young people, are unemployed. There is hunger, poverty and suffering in the working class in Greece, Portugal, Spain and Ireland. A huge wave of strikes is now over southern Europe. EUs true political face appears against the people. There are violations of academic and democratic rights, wages and pensions cut, reduction of health care and public welfare. Speculative capital has led to huge government debt and economic collapse. Under the EU's development, racism, fascism and neo-Nazism have had good growing conditions. Rabid anti-communism has provided fertile ground for the growth of the violent right-wing.

The Peace Prize to the EU is a slap in the face of peace activists, the labor movement and all who fight for Norway's independence and democracy. The Nobel Committee must be replaced.

NKP (Communist Party of Norway) urge all peace organizations, No to EU, trade unions, farmers' organizations and the coastal population, and all progressive people to give a strong response to the award ceremony on 10 December, when the prize will be awarded in Oslo, with demonstrations across the country.
