A 5000-strong crowd were treated to a spectacular finish to an under-18s cycling race last night, with 14 riders involved in a massive crash.
The crash occurred in the 2000-metre Melbourne Cup on Wheels race at Vodaphone Arena.
With 150 metres remaining in the dash, 17-year-old Jamie Crass lost control of his bike and sent the vast majority of the field sprawling.
The pile-up involved 14 cyclists in all, with the remaining four racers cruising to the finish.
Despite a dozen cyclists receiving cuts and bruises, all walked away from the crash.
