BEDFORD HEIGHTS, I-480
A police officer responded to a car that had spun out on the freeway in the westbound lanes just before 9 a.m. today.
As the officer was assisting the woman driver of that car by leaning into the passenger-side window, another car spun out and struck the woman's car.
Her car then hit the officer.
The 29-year-old officer was not seriously injured and was taken to South Pointe Hospital.
Police chief Bova tells that the officer involved "had an angel on his shoulder," and that had the officer been standing on the driver's side of the first car, he'd have been struck by the second vehicle.
The officer was following the correct procedure in assisting the stranded motorist from the passenger side.
