They are not protecting the body of the monkess, it was a cold day and so they all gathered round to have some warmth. Seriously, this is an a sad end to a persons life, as you other LL say, will not change the Chinese governments attitude at all, so in reality a sad waste of life.

@CardCarryingCardCarrier
It is actually more nationalism than anything else.

@TankHunter Yep It's almost always been anything other than religion. Power, resources, culture, ethnicity, inequality, oppression and, as you say, nationalism. Been going on since the beginning of time- tribe vs tribe, village vs village, nation vs nation.

@Rammsteinltd The ultimate sacrifice, to draw attention to the oppression of the Tibetan people, by the Chinese. (I mistakenly hit the thumbs up instead of reply.)

I'm really not sure what these self-scorchers hope to achieve. It's not like this is anything unusual anymore.

@hereforthecomments They are giving their lives to draw attention to the injustices that are occurring in Tibet. Did you know, the Chinese are forcefully sterilizing Tibetan women? You may not care about that, but at least that nun's death got you to question what was going on.

@NoGodButAlan For what it's worth, I question most things. Sure, I understand the desire for a group/tribe/nation to draw attention to what they perceive as ill treatment at the hands of another, but my questioning goes deeper than that. Was this an act of defiance, or desperation? A route to a "better place" or just a way out of a bad place?

@hereforthecomments Apologies. Didn't mean to offend. It's just that what's happening there really pisses me off. Having looked into the immolation's in Tibet, I can say that they are acts of defiance and desperation. Their culture is being wiped out by the Chinese. Genocide.
