Riding the buses in Nassau County is anything but NICE this summer. Many of the older buses are suffering from the poor maintanance the most, and are dropping like flies. I've been told many have had to run with no air conditioning despite the extreme heat, because otherwise the engines will overheat. It's no wonder, since Ed Mangano and the Nassau County Legislature headed by Peter Schmitt (who has no problem spending taxpayers money on having County Police fix his flat tire) puts so little into the bus system. The new company, Veolia, has cut maintanance personnel, many of the older buses aren't even getting the parts they need. So in the end buses are dropping like flies, and frankly, a danger to operate. And now the breakdowns are getting so numerous, many runs are going missing, leaving passengers waiting in the hot sun to try and squeeze onto the next bus.
How much longer can Mangano and Nassau County get away with treating the bus system, riders, and employees, like this? And how can Veolia have money to install cameras on every bus, at $700-$800 per bus, but not for maintanance so these buses don't break down? These breakdowns are a hidden, sneaky service cut. Just today, June 22, 2012, 3 buses broke down. Two on the busy n27 bus route never even arrived, leaving people to wait and wonder.
One thing's for sure, it's gonna be a long, hot, miserable summer for NICE bus riders.

NICE? Well not if you depend on some bus routes in Nassau County!

what they need is small busses, small! damnit, whats the point of a 50 foot bus with 4 passengers in it, run small busses that come with more frequency.

Hahaha I thought WE had shitty busses in NZ, for once I can say after seeing this, ours are actually mostly better than nassau county! Although almost every other part of the transport system here mostly sucks.
Shame on the company for letting their busses run like this, replace them or repair them. Not hard eh. Don't keep inconveniencing your passengers for 0.00001% bottom line you cheap fucks.

Here, annoy this agency:
http://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/rules-regulations/administration/fmcsr/fmcsrruletext.aspx?reg=386.12
I dunno if this company technically falls under the rules, but the FMSCA has been shutting down unsafe companies lately, specifically bus companies. If they get involved, all the dirt will be dragged out from under the carpet, regardless of who tries to interfere.

Orion buses are the best in North America UNLESS they are not maintained properly. Stopping every couple of blocks is clearly a maintenance problem.

Thank you for the video. Very interesting. It is incredible that such powerful nation has such shitty buses that fail to work. To apache helicopters there is enought money. To buses, no money. Its gross

If you let those size buses run on poor maintenance, they're downright dangerous. You can have carbon monoxide leak into the rider area. They can catch fire. They have the same need for excellent brake maintence as large trucks, except moreso because they stop-and-go so much more than regular vehicles of the same weight class, and when their brakes do fail that's 11 - 14 tons of runaway mayhem making highlights for LiveLeak.

@DCX
This broken down bus would be like a shiny new Rolls Royce looking bus in India and would have 389 passengers stuffed in it without air conditioning on your hottest day.
We are thankful for our broken buses, thank you.

@USA1 No fuckin joke when I went to India I wanted to slum it and ride the trains and buses and I was told not to because its an easy way to catch tuberculosis. I ate an apple and shit my brains out for 3 days. You'd think the fucking thing contained arsenic. I did take a private bus to a southern french town called Pondicherry and they were having some farmers festival called Pongol or some shit and in the 3 hour drive we saw two people killed in 2 separate accidents on motorbikes laid out on t More..

@DCX I wonder where the outsourcing jobs come from. GO back to your job - which is probably heavily dependent on the good old USA

@USA1 yes true, no need to get emotional, its always good to criticize,so as to keep things in check. On the same note don't forget India donated Us$ 10 billion on Friday to the IMF to bail out the Euro zone. That would buy a lot of buses.
Please make sure that your govt does not put you in such a situation that it has to beg a poor country like India for donations in the future. Get rid of half of the congress in the next elections.Obama or romney, its the same MNC's that control both the candida More..

More reason to go to school, keep your nose clean and work hard at getting somewhere in life. Instead of skipping school, showing up late to work all the time, let your personal life dramas interfere with your job. Yes I am talking to people who can't hold a job long enough to get the basic shit in life down like car ownership.

@The Grim I just don't see how anyone can survive without a car even if its an old junker, what kind of life is that to depend on public transportation to do everything, I am not rich but have always had a car since I was old enough to drive. been driving for 50 years and never owned a new car.
