Yup, WAS .... it's been ripped down
The rest of the neighbourhood in the Xiayangzhang village had been flattened by authorities building a major highways link to a new railway station on the outskirts of the city of Wenling in Zhejiang province, accommodating China's super speed trains.
Motorists were reportedly driving around the property, which had become the latest symbol of resistance by Chinese homeowners against officials accused of offering unfair compensation.
But Xiayangzhang village chief Chen Xuecai said the house was bulldozed after the couple agreed to accept compensation of 260,000 yuan, or £26,000.
Mr Chen said Mr Luo voluntarily agreed to the deal.
The pictures of the 'motorway home' in its unique location were posted across the internet.
Chen Xuecai claimed one reason for Mr Luo's decision was the media attention the landmark was getting.
'Luo Baogen received dozens of people from the media every day and his house stands in the centre of the road. So he decided to demolish the house,' he said.
China's official Xinhua news agency quoted Mr Luo as saying: 'It was never a final solution for us to live in a lone house in the middle of the road.
'After the government's explanations, I finally decided to move.'
China's infrastructure and real estate growth has sparked controversy due to the number of relocations it is causing and the low compensation payments people are getting.

@strapjangler Remember that video with the punk journalist that started questioning the chinese official, so the official had his bodyguards go "explain" his position to the journalist? Shit, I can't remember the name exactly, but that comment makes me think that something very similar probably went down here.

Yeah. The government probably explained that some money might be preferable to a 9mm slug in the neck.
I'm sure that I would "decide" to move too. lol!
I was shocked that the Commies let it go this far.

"After the government's explanations, I finally decided to move."
And by government's explanations, he means beaten until permanently brain-damaged. I'm surprised it even leaked given China is Communist.

I'm sure he was gently persuaded by officials to allow the demolition of his lovely home. Afterall the Chinese are known for their goodwill for their fellow man. The owner did it for the good of his country, I'm sure. The fact that his family had disappeared was purely coincidental and the police were glad to report their safe return after a brief unexpected trip to visit relatives. The homeowner is recovering from shock in the hospital.

Believe me it happens, there was a case here in Phoenix when they built the Phoenix Sun's basketball arena right where "China Town" once was. A Chinese woman refused to move when the plans for the arena were all set to go, she "had a sudden heart attack" and died right as construction was set to begin.
