When Obama took over student loans, he put an expiration date on them. After 10 years with community service, or 20 years without, the loans are forgiven, and the taxpayer sucks it up. So students are becoming professional, lifelong students on the taxpayers.

And that's why we left Norway.

I asked my father recently how he thought his life would have turned out had we still lived there, in Norway. He said, very different. I would not have become what I am had we still lived in Norway. He was very thankful that he/we came here to the US.

I think it was Holmenkollen outside of Oslo. Yeah, I've been there too. You can feel the entire wooden ski jump sway in the wind. I certainly wouldn't do it:-)

  • Here's a long read , but worth it for anyone thinking that the socialist Scandinavian model is better than capitalist USA , and Canada .

The Grass Is Always Greener on the Other Side
    By Jan Gindrup

    Introduction by Pete Kofod:

As some readers may know, I was raised in Denmark for the better part of my childhood before moving to Brazil and eventually the United States. Not surprisingly, I am often confronted by big-government apologists that herald Scandinavia as living proof that socialism d More..

    • @atr if i had the chance id still want to live in Denmark for a while. Hot babes. Who'd probably want nothing to do with me but you never know. But also their gun laws suck. It would be nice to be in a country where 95% of the people are white. The most gorgeous women on the planet are white. Thumbs down if you agree. Ha ha!!

  • America does the dirty work that Europe fully takes advantage of. It doesn't make what the US government does okay, it just makes Europeans fucking hypocrites for pretending like they don't have skin in that same dirty game.

And education isn't "free". You tax the shit out of the middle class to make it free of charge, and the unemployment rate in EU countries has been around 20% for decades.

  • I realized in high school that no matter what I'll be working for the rest of my life, mine as well start out with no debt, albeit no college degree. And my dad was a trucker, I knew I would do something of that nature rather than a lawyer or doctor or whatever. So now I live in a bitching harbor working in a neat little boat yard, right across from a navy base, so every morning at 8am when I unlock the gates I hear the national anthem, and as much faith as I've lost in this country, I still fee More..

  • What's the point?,Why have college at all if it's going to be funded by tax dollars? just create a better public school system k-12 that teaches trades.College is a choice if you need the tutor to learn something,If not, just buy the books and learn whatever without going into debt.

    • @jaydenfre That is so out of touch with reality it makes me wonder what you do for a living.

    • @brokenrob Dude...The college degree isn't what's worth anything in the job market,It's the state certification. If the employer knows you are certified by law he could care less if you went to college and the state certification doesn't require you to go to college to obtain, just study and take the test.College is nothing more than selling student loans and the majority of classes you take are only to fatten the loan up.

  • Nice Occutard theory.

I love how education is "free". Nothing is free. The problem is student debt is probably 10% of the cost once the "gvmt" gets involved and makes the system ineffective.

No one is forcing anyone to go to school. Interestingly enough, some of the richest people did not got to/finish college: Bill Gates, Michael Dell, etc.

    • @AngryWhiteMan Well put, I already posted this in another comment but one of my favorite quotes is from the absolute paragon of human intellect, Albert Einstein: "Education is what remains after one has forgotten everything he learned in school."
