FARMINGTON, N.M. (KRQE) - A night of partying turned violent early Wednesday after one man made a comment about another man’s mother, Farmington police reported.
Jay Johnson, 25, was the host of a small gathering at his mobile home inside the Mesa Mobile Park located at 2011 Troy King Road. The group was drinking and having a good time, police said.
Then around 1:00 a.m. one guest allegedly made a comment about Johnson’s mom having cancer. That’s when detectives say a fight broke out with Johnson soon pulling out a shotgun.
"Two individuals inside were both hit with the shotgun,” Detective Sgt. Robert Perez said.
That was just the beginning. Detectives also said they believe Johnson then held the two guests against their will inside the house for four hours.
“Mr. Johnson stood guard at the door and stood guard over them while he was armed with the shotgun,” Perez said.
While holding the guests captive Johnson allegedly threatened to beat the two again. Then around 5 a.m. he just let them go.
Detectives are not sure what lead to Johnson’s change of heart. They are still investigating.
One of the victims was taken to the hospital where he was treated and released.
Armed with a warrant detectives searched Johnson’s place later Wednesday morning. Inside they found the shotgun believed to have been used by Johnson during the ordeal.
Johnson was arrested and charged with kidnapping, aggravated assault and aggravated battery.
He was booked into the San Juan County Detention Center and is being held on a $100,000 bond.
