Magpie Assault
Bicyclist Glen Nilsen is attacked by this magpie in Ransome, a suburb of Brisbane, Australia, up to four times a week.
"He always goes for the top of your ear,'' says Glen. "He has an area 100m long where he will attack you. I've tried carrying sticks but he still comes at you ... I had to put on ear muffs to stop him.''

EJECT Maverick...EJECT!!! We had a mockingbird right in front of my house that started dive bombing us as soon as we got out of the car or came out of the front door. He would peck your head sooo bad repeatedly. We thought it would stop in time but after a week it was like we were being held hostage. So I took my Gammo 1400fps .22 cal pellet gun, set up in a upstairs window and "solved" the problem. I know it was only protecting the nest but it was terrorizing us. After the headshot I More..

I've had blood drawn by Magpie strikes. Still I have no problem with them.
They are very intelligent and recognise their local humans and cats/dogs and won't attack them. It's only strangers crossing their territory that get the treatment.
I've even thought about putting a face on the back of my helmet when riding but they are probably too clever for that.
P.S. You are right. It's a boy Magpie.

I admit now to total perfidy.
I would take my kids over the road to the park where the magpies weren't friendly.
We'd get the 5yo to start running away from the Magpie tree and place bets on how far he'd get before being swooped!
The magpie swoops were a delight to see. They'd fall out of the tree to gain speed, glide along the ground under head-height and at high speed and at the last instant pop up for the head strike!

When I was young a magpie had me bailed up under a play on tractor in a park, stayed there till my mum came looking for me, vicious.

Bloody things, during this time of the year (spring) they swoop at you all the time.....we use to wear empty plastic ice cream containers on our heads. On the containers we drew eyes as that would deter them...

Nest, mamabird one
mamabird one, go ahead
there is a human bicycle rider infiltrating base perimeter, tried establishing communications, but seemed to either ignore or not understand, intent appears to be hostile, permission to engage, over.
Mamabird one, you are clear to engage. I repeat, you are clear to engage.
Rodger that Nest, bogey at one o'clock low, going hot.

Use to feed these birds at my house every morning and afternoon.
They get so cheeky, they eventually went into my kitchen when the door was left open to help themselves to food. When I would enter the kitchen it would just look at me as if to say, "Problem?"
Great birds. :)

I never fed them, but an easy cure since they are smart are rat traps. You nail a couple of them and they learn to stay away. Put their favorite treat on it and set the large trap, grab a bag of popcorn and some paper towels(it can get bloody) and enjoy the show!
