Tech: The Legged Squad Support System (LS3)
Meet the LS3 (Legged Squad Support System), the latest prototype of DARPA's new multi-terrain load bearing automaton. If it looks familiar, it's because this is the bigger brother of the similar "Big Dog" robotic pack mule. This one can carry 400 lbs. of gear and can traverse any terrain independently without an operator to guide it. It can also follow voice commands and recharge handheld electronic devices. DARPA hopes to have this thing accompanying our Marines and other troops in 18 months or so from the time of this submission.
