Melvin Johnson, 44, of the 100 block of Grampian Road, St. Louis, is charged with one count of second degree murder and one count of armed criminal action.
The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney's Office charged Johnson on Wednesday in connection to a Jan. 6 murder. St. Louis County Police were called to 10365 Baron where Willie Furnace, 80, was found beaten to death. Investigators believe Furnace and Johnson were acquaintances involved in an altercation.
Johnson was questioned and released early in the investigation and was arrested on Wednesday, Feb. 24, after police said evidence at the scene linked him to the crime.
Johnson remains in jail with no bond set.
