7.4 cubic km of ice crashing into the ocean
It's like watching 'Manhattan breaking apart in front of your eyes', says filmmaker James Balog. He's describing the largest iceberg calving ever filmed, as featured in his movie, Chasing Ice. After weeks of waiting, the filmakers witnessed 7.4 cubic km of ice crashing off the Ilulissat glacier in Greenland. Chasing Ice, released in the UK on Friday, follows James Balog's mission to document Arctic ice being melted by climate change.

@Gruxxan Sorry but they weren't "panned out" in the slightest - you can see them zoom in several times. When the whole image looks so flat and covers such a small area, when they're maybe a mile away, it's obvious they're very much zoomed in as close as possible.

@Rowhan if they 'zoomed in' they must have been 'zoomed out' to start with. also, how do you know how small the area they are covering is? the guy said its like 'watching manhatten break apart'. you couldnt get it all in one shot, its so big. its very difficult to get the scale when theres no point of reference.

Naturally occuring glaciers called "galloping glaciers" do this alot, where entire sections are pushed into the sea. Global climate change needs to get away from the money grab and start doing serious science that leaves out any pre-determined conclusions. Otherwise it just looks like a power grab by using more "carbon taxes" to squeeze us some more.

@WayUpNorth I agree. I'm concerned about climate change and think we need to address it. But the taxes an carbon credits etc. are just about money and are not trying to fix anything.

@WayUpNorth it's funny it looks like that, cus that's exactly what it is. A money grab backed up by guesswork and presumptions. You gotta be dumb to think that the earth isn't constantly changing, nobody can say that the earth should be a certain temperature their ain't no benchmark temperature!

@Epic_Beard_Man exactly! When you pay extra on a flight where does that money go? Does it go to plant more trees to absorb the co2? Does it go into research to find alternative fuels? No it goes straight in the corporations pocket- you just got mugged!

So?
It's been going on for billions of years. Some periods there has been fast change, some slow, some hot, some cold.
None of that changes, that right now it's changing fast, and that the changes will might have a great effect on us.

and by research, i mean, look up what happens to the gulf stream as greenland melts (which is what is being observed)....the gulf stream slows down and europe gets colder. the past few years in europe are evidence of this. foolish little boy
