Thrust SSC Over the Sound Barrier!
I am starting off with my first video here, it was lying in my computer and i think that the person who made this video originally did an awesome job.Since my interest is motorsports and speedy stuff, i will later include more videos about the same.ThrustSSC holds the World Land Speed Record, set on 15 October 1997, when it achieved a speed of 1,228 km/h (763 mph) and became the first car to officially break the sound barrier.

Makes me chuckle when you hear him talking inside the car-he's so calm!

@Zeb Especially since he almost loses it in the middle of the run.

Seen before, but thanks for showing. Andy Green is one cool operator. I love that classic dry English unruffled approach to a something that is essentially fatal if the slightest error occurs.

@steepend
They have to do two runs within a certain timescale and then an average is taken from them both.Likely one was considerably faster than first and the speed of 1228kph is the average.

@Zeb Nope. Not an official record run. They do this to get people interested in science and engineering. They run the whole project off donations.
They're building another car now that's going to break the 1000mph barrier, if there is such a thing.

@priapism I am so looking forward to it. The video we get from it will be incredible considering the advances in camera tech that have gone on in the meantime.

That's beautiful & nutz. I wouldn't want to pilot one of them, margin for error is extremely slim & consequences high.

Hmmm.
