CCTV Footage Captures Moment Girl Meets her Rapist and Murderer

She'd moments earlier refused an offer from a friend to walk her home, in the cctv footage monster in the blue hoodie (0:04) who had overtaken her, walks back a minute or so later to harass her, she senses danger and stops to make a phone call to her brother, moments later she is abducted. Six days later her body was recovered from a shallow grave 45 miles away, the suspect was out on parole after raping six women in seven months.

A 41-YEAR-OLD man has been charged with the rape and murder of missing Irishwoman Jill Meagher in Australia.

Police have confirmed that her body was found in a shallow grave at Gisborne Road South at 1.45am local time today. The site is about 55km from where the 29-year-old went missing and it is believed that the suspect travelled with police to assist them in their search.

Named by Victoria police as Adrian Ernest Bayley from the suburb of Coburg near Brunswick, the accused is due to appear in the Melbourne Magistrates Court tomorrow morning.

He made a brief appearance in an out-of-sessions court hearing earlier today (1.45am local time) to be charged on both counts. The Age reports that he clasped his left hand over his face throughout proceedings. When asked if he understood the charges, he replied, “Yes”.

Police continue to conduct forensic analysis of the scene but say they are not searching for anyone else in connection with the rape and murder.

The accused was arrested today after police appealed to talk to a man in a blue hoodie who appeared a number of times on CCTV footage of the night the victim disappeared.

Last moments

Detectives in Melbourne had been trying to piece together the last-known movements of Jill Meagher, who is originally from Drogheda in Louth, since the investigation began six days ago.

She was seen leaving Bar Ettiquette in the Brunswick area of Melbourne at around 1.30am local time and was reported missing at around midday the next day.

She had been socialising with work colleagues from ABC radio and set out alone to walk to her home which was about five minutes away.

Camera footage from outside a bridal shop captured her having a conversation with the man in the blue hoodie at about 1.40am and it is understood she made a phone call to her brother in Perth at around the same time.

  • This tragic event has affected a lot of people (including myself) from all around Australia and the world. The amount of Tributes in our local paper "Herald Sun" is in the thousands. A lot people came to early judgements by blaming her husband and thankfully the police done their job and arrested this piece of scum. May he rot in hell.

  • Regarding crime and punishment in Australia: In my town a young woman was arrested and charged for killing her boyfriends cat in a rage and threatening to drown their child in the nearby river. The magistrate found her guilty, recommended counselling and ordered that no conviction be recorded as it could have a negative effect on the womans' career - IN CHILDCARE.

The legal system is fucking joke in this country and many others. If criminals were sentenced appropriately, this Adrian Ernest Ba More..

    • @rachelle351 at least some states have the death penalty. Here you can get 7 years or less for murder. Do a lil online looking and laugh at the so called justice here.

Australia doesn't have a death penalty?!?!? WTF?!?!?!?!?

Still our dp is still a joke tho. People put in appeals after appeals, thus pushing back their death.

I'm from washington state. We have both lethal injection and hanging, which you get to choose. So if you choose hanging, the state cannot change it for you. But if you don't want to choose, then the default is LJ. So this guy, rapes and murders a 15 year old. Here at walla walla, prisonors have access to snacks and stuff (I' More..
