Brakes rarely fail, but if they did you would know about it long before you got that near to an obstruction, he was going full throttle, so I say suicide.

Something similar happened in Connecticut when I lived there in the '80s. Killed a bunch of people. The next day they stopped collecting tolls and eventually tore down all the toll booths.

Air brakes don't work like our car brakes, car brakes when you step on the brake pedal it causes the pads to squeeze together and stop the vehicle. Air brake system apply pressure to keep the brakes from engaging until you step on the brake pedal and then it allows the brakes to come together to apply pressure to the drum. So this couldn't be brake failure because the brakes would of locked up when the system lost pressure.

@northpappyflappy yeah thats what i thought i was thinking about a career change antill you said that, i had the air line go on a volvo truck all the brakes locked on so again reconfirms what you said i am guess the guy wasnt paying attention i have seen loads of european drivers on the uk roads driving with there feet up on the dash etc no wonder they have accidents like this
