Australia: 'Petrol thieves run over woman trying to stop them at a service station'

Shocking CCTV footage has been released of a woman being run down at a service station while trying to stop a group of teenagers from stealing petrol.

The incident took place at Dowell’s Fuels in Brewarrina in north-west NSW on January 6.

Radio 2GB posted footage on its website of service station owner Debbie Dowell trying to stop the teenagers, who were in a stolen car, from stealing fuel.

As Ms Dowell comes out of her petrol station, the 16-year-old driver tries to flee, running her down in the process.

Ms Dowell manages to open the car door, but the teen reverses. The car door drags her backwards until the driver brakes and Ms Dowell is sent flying.

Her head and back crash onto the ground.

The trio then drive off almost running Ms Dowell over in the process.

She suffered head, back, neck and elbow injuries and was off work for a month.

Radio 2GB reported there was another 16-year-old and a 15-year-old in the car.

At least one of them has a criminal history, including destroying property, theft and stealing cars, 2GB reported.

The driver of the car was given an eight-month good behaviour bond after being charged with failing to stop at the scene of an accident, theft and damaging property.

One of the passengers faced court this month and was sentenced to seven months detention. He had multiple matters before the court, 2GB reported.

The third teen is yet to face court.
