Quoted comment by Chetnix: I have no clue what just happened. Where did the motorbike come from?
The motorcycle that crashed would have been out of shot but on the right of the camera motorcycle that was shooting the video we are watching. The rider has a cameraman on the back usually sitting backwards so they can film the bike racers. There are usually so many camera motorcycles following a race I'm surprised there have never been more accidents like this.
The camera motorcycle rider probably just got a bit to close to the crowd or someone in the crowd got in his way causing the accident. They don't normally have this sort of accident. It's usually the bike racers that hit the crowd.

it looked like a miscalculation on the part of the motorcycle driver
at the very beginning of the film you see the guy's foot move and the antennae shake like he almost hit something and tried correcting himself -- then he hits that woman next

That looked bad. Especially the blond person whose head smacked the pavement pretty hard. Either the motorbike lost control, or somebody ran in front of it. People are always crowding the riders at those bike races, especially in the mountains.
Got some more info. Aparently the crowd were pushing to see the oncomming cyclists which caused a domino effect and some of them fell forward. The bike driver could not stop in time. Also it wasnt a camera bike, but a bike with one of the officials on it.

How could they not see the motorcycle?
Aren't they supposed to be spectators?

Yep looks like one of the spectators crowded the motorbike, causing it to lose control.

Description says 16 people were hurt. It looked to me 5 or 6 were involved. Was it exaggrated?
Posted Apr-13-2009 by "cubbie2o2o" (R)
5 or 6 were actually injured, the 10 other just wanted to cash in on the law suit.

Probably the submitter exaggerated to get the view count up, looks like it worked.

Doesn't work like this in France... you don't earn lot of money suing companies, people...
It's the fault of the driver, he is simply not supposed to drive on the pavement...

I've seen these races. Half the people are so stupid or drunk they stand on the damn raceway. Heres a thought, DONT STAND SO CLOSE TO THE TRACK.
