Clint Eastwood makes the 6th Dirty Harry movie

I think we can officially declare this story the wildest rumour of the week. Although I still question the credibility of said rumour, it’s spreading pretty fast and it’s certainly got a lot of people excited. Yesterday there was an announcement about Clint Eastwood directing and starring in a new movie called Gran Torino with Warner Brothers/Village Roadshow Pictures. No other details about the film were given, except that it was planned for a December release. Shortly thereafter, a scooper wrote in to Ain’t It Cool News and related a little story:

“I recently advertised my 1974 ford grand torino classic original for sale in the local here, and within 24 hours had someone from Village Roadshow Pictures interested in having a look at it. He came. He wasn’t interested for numerous reasons (probably the modifications). He told me they were looking for the right car for a new Clint Eastwood movie.

He said it was a thriller about a killer that drives a certain torino. His 1972 Ford Gran Torino is the only thing the police have on him. A retired police lieutenant, one Harry Callahan, makes it his mission to track down the culprit when two young police officers, one Callahan’s grandson, are shot and killed by the guy.”

So is Gran Torino actually the sixth Dirty Harry film, the first in 20 years? Could it be? Well, there has been talk of a new Dirty Harry film for a while now, but I didn’t ever think Clint Eastwood himself was supposed to star in it. I was always under the impression that it would be a remake. But if anyone can star as a bad ass cop at the age of 77, it’s certainly Clint Eastwood. What do you think, is this rumour actually true? And if so, how much would that rule?
