Theft, hookers, melting down Iraqi gold to make cowboy spurs - all in a day's work for private military contractors in Iraq?
Allegations of widespread mismanagement and corruption among private contractors in Iraq are nothing new; if anything, tales of cronyism, over-billing, and embezzlement have become so frequent that our national tolerance for them seems only to have increased as the Iraq War has drawn on. Even so, the testimony earlier this week of three whistleblowers before the Senate's Democratic Policy Committee (DPC) stands out for the sheer outrageousness of their accusations - namely that U.S. private contractors looted Iraqi palaces and ministries, stole military equipment, fenced supplies destined for U.S. troops, and even operated a prostitution ring that may have contributed to the death of fellow con

    • Sorry for being so aggressive, but that apathetic attitude is the very essence of a people's demise. The first thing you can do about it is realize that government needs a house cleaning and a restructuring, and after your epiphany you will carry a healthy mistrust of government instead of a slavish and cretin reliance upon it. You will demand of it, not if of you.
After this you will organize with others. And I am no communist, but if companies get out of control the government, historically co More..

    • What planet do you live on? Never mind, what country? The Media is ONLY as "liberal and biased" as the MAJOR CORPORATINS than own them.

But it's OK, this stuff will continue to go on so long as there's Americans like you willing to put up with it, and who believes the media is honest.

    • I dont think the media is honest in its profession but what they report needs to have some decent sources, a few reporters have been in trouble for that in the last year or so. I DO think that if there is scandal, or corruption, or death to report then they LOVE to have that in the news no matter what. All media has a bias.

  • I worked in Iraq (Tikrit and Kirkuk) for 18 months with KBR (Jul 04 to Jan 06). I never saw any of this sort of crime. The 'drug deals' I saw were to get materials such as lumber or electrical fittings or plumbing materials. These deals were not for gain, but rather to accomplish a job or improve living conditions for the Soldiers. The KBR people I saw were hard working people doing a hard job in a dangerous situation.

The described incidents may well have happened, but they were crimes More..

  • Corporate fascism or a government totally subservient to business interests creates excesses like these. This type of government takes care of the lucky few,the rest can go f themselves and join the army and do their dirty bidding.

  • Nothing new about thieft in the military. It was going on even in Old Roman Empire and every army since then. If you get caught then you get punishment and it not then you make money. Nothing new.

  • What a crock o'shit. To a person, all these "accounts" are brought forward by loser ex-employees with an ax to grind. I know. I was there, and involved in a lot of their terminations. It's soooo easy to make up BS horror stories against a company that chooses to keep its mouth shut and not credit such lies with a response. If there's one story about this war that represents the American people being hoodwinked, it's the whole idea that LOGCAP and other contracts are shot-through with c More..
