6:05 pm, July 31st, 2012So, last night 17-year-old U.S. swimmer Missy Franklin
won the gold in an incredibly exciting 100m backstroke race. Or, at
least, it was incredibly surprising to every viewer who wasn’t unlucky
enough to catch the NBC ad that spoiled the race’s result before it ever aired.
Yes, for many, Franklin winning her first gold did not get to be a
surprise. Of course, that wasn’t the case for the commentators who got
to see it without a time delay. How surprised were they? Well, listen to
them describe the “terrible” way Franklin begins the race (just a few
seconds before she ends up winning it).
It’s a pretty hilarious turn around and a perfect reminder that in
sports, just like in politics, no one knows crap until someone’s
actually holding the gold.
You can watch the hilarious 180° reaction from NBC below. Go here to watch the full coverage of the event.
