My Latest Synthesizer Purchase - An ARP 2500
Part of channel(s): Movie Scene LL Challenge (promoted)

This is for the curious gear-heads. A 1971 ARP 2500. The video isn't me playing but you can hear me playing mine on Papagang's "Colder" collaboration. 15K for an archaic piece of junk and it didn't even come with a manual. A perfect addition to my collection of dinosaur synthesizers. ;-)

Thanks for keeping that archaic piece of junk out of the junk yard.

    • @cajunmojo Ha ha ha. The only reason I am into these, is my Mother, RIP, was a professional musician and worked for a recording studio. My older brother has her 1968 Moog 3P in his home, and I have her Baby Grand in mine. Sister has her Baldwin Organ.
Have 4 beer, have 2 for me and we are even, ha ha ha

The Who and Pink Floyd both used a Putney (VCS3) OK, you both owe me a million bucks for this bet.

  • Cool, but do you have a 60's Moog in that collection?

Here is where you can get schematics and documents for the ARP2500.

  • Looking back at the credit card statements, ever blow 15K on a whim? Apparently I did. I nee to chop Genevieve's hands off but that would make her a less successful keyboardist. Catch 22. Bitch but I love her.

    About 1:50 ARP2500 in action.

    Useless pile of junk...

This puppy doesn't need a manual.

  • The programming is at the bottom and the top. Kind of like a woman, tedious and boring. ;-)

  • So name this beast, All of my equipment are named after Dinosaurs and we're up to number 70. It's how we recognize who's playing what as everything is wired together.

  • I named her "Vulcanodon". A very large beast with a pea sized brain. Look it up, it's a real name for a dinosaur.

A great toy. You turn it on and, well, it doesn't do anything. It's a modular. An ARP2600 makes noise out of the box but you can override all it's programming and turn it into it's mental cousin, the 2500.

      I love these toys.

  • So tell me, would Florian Schneider drool over this in the early 70's. I'm kinda thinking this was out of their monetary grasp back then. Perhaps you know the history better than I.

      Kraftwerk? Autonahn?

    • @mlivsey Yup. Them guys, Kraftwerk. From what I've heard, they built a lot of their own equipment. I was just wondering if they would have had something like this.

All of Genevieve's are named after Carnevore. All of Mimieux's are named after Herbavores. Mine are named after Sauropods. Really big and stupid. I fooled them, I'm not that big.

    • @SmokeFerrets.

If anything, they would have done an ARP 2600. They were mostly into Moogs in the early days. IT was just a softer sound. I prefer the badass sound reputation some of these old machines are capable of creating.

Thanks for the history lesson ... :)

Most stable oscillators ever. Moogs and Putneys suck when it comes to stability. I have an ARP 2600 which is a boatload easier to play. Made famous by Jean-Michel Jarre but I prefer the challenge.
