A gas cylinder used to fill balloons exploded in the early afternoon in front of the zoo in Recife, Two Brothers in the park, in the north of the city. Four people were injured and two of them had their legs amputated by the blast.

@Neil Griffith It wouldn't surprise me. Hydrogen is cheaper than helium. I seem to recall seeing a video here on LL of a balloon exploding in a ball of fire that would support this notion.

The guy next to the yellow bike died at hospital today, the other one is now an amputee.

Yeh thats what I thought. A ballon gas cylinder is around 50 atm which is not insignificant but this looks more serious than that.

Those cylinders were likely last hydro tested the day they were made...35 years ago. That type of cylinder doesn't have an overpressure valve like a propane cylinder, so pressure can build with just the heat of the day and not be vented back to a safe pressure. That type of cylinder in the US is filled to 4400 PSI for breathing air, not sure about helium.
