Another great old film showing San Francisco of old. I myself have posted two San Fran films over the years but I've yet to see this film posted on LL. It gives an interesting visual account of how the city has changed it's social make-up. This film made by Tullio Pellegrini using a Bell & Howell's Filmorama Lens was made in 1955 and shows great background detail such as the street scenes, the people and classic vehicles. At what point in time did the population of San Francisco begin to change, was it the '1960's' and or the 'Flower Power' era or was there something else that contributed to make San Francisco what it is today.
[I've just found these 3 notes that went with the original, they were comments from the archives message board;
This shows San Francisco when it had vitality and life. Notice how fit well-dressed and civilized everyone seems. No homeless drug-addicts pissing in the streets and living on porches. These people in the 40s and 50s built one of the greatest cities in the world and the leeches are now living off their accomplishments.

I have lived in in San Francisco since 1967 and I enjoyed seeing what it looked like in the 50's.

I felt very sad as I watched the video. In 1959 my family moved from Texas to San Francisco. Where my dad use to drive a city bus and my mom use to take us to all those places in the video. She especially loved the flowers in Golden Gate park. She never neglected to take us to the beach and Play Land. I have written a book about growing up in San Francisco. I was afraid that as I told about these places no one would ever be able to see the places of which I speak, for many of them do not exist any-more. I loved living in The City. I will always hold fond memories of growing in San Francisco of old.]

San Francisco was probably a pretty nice place before the fudge packers and pillow biters ruined it for normal people.

Some of those cars are still around. It would be cool to travel the same route today and compare

@James-T-Kirk It amazes me how much is still the same, with the exception of a few freeways, from the quake.

Wow, I enjoyed that TC. I went to college in San Jose and spent much of my free time exploring SF. A great place to just sit somewhere, smoke one, and people-watch too.

Sutro Baths... what an awesome place! I spent quite a bit of time there walking around the trails, watching the waves hit the rocks, sea lions, and that arcade of really old games and music boxes (is that still there?). And later, when I could afford it, lunch or brunch at the Cliff House. I'm sure I've forgotten a lot, since it's been over 20 years since I've been there, but thanks for jogging some fine memories
