THOUSANDS of foreign prisoners will be kicked out of Britain to serve their sentences in their own countries, it was announced yesterday.
Justice Secretary Chris Grayling said work was already under way to cut dramatically the 10,000 foreigners languishing in jails after numbers had soared by 40 per cent in the last decade.
He vowed the situation needs “sorting once and for all” to free up more prison spaces.
“It is a tough task, but it’s one we are already tackling,” he said.
Mr Grayling also told the Tory conference of plans to protect frightened householders who are victims of burglars.
He confirmed that ministers would change the law to offer beefed-up support to homeowners when raiders target their properties.
They would not be prosecuted unless their response was “grossly disproportionate”.
