Update: Japanese Harley-Davidson Owner Found
This item updates item 'Harley Davidson Motorcycle Washed up in B.C. is Japanese Tsunami Debris'
May 1, 2012
CBC's coverage of Peter Mark's discovery of a Harley-Davidson in Haida Gwaii has led to finding its Japanese owner, who lost it in last year's tsunami. He lost everything, his home and three members of his family. Harley Davidson has offered to restore the motorcycle for free and return it to him.

What an awesome gesture for Harley Davidson to offer to restore the bike for free. Wouldn't cost them that much and they will get ten times the payback in positive press coverage, along with a ton of positive karma.
Unlike Spirit airlines. What a bunch of idiots they are.

@gwarr I been thinkin about that. It was in a truck, which we've seen floating in the water as the tsunami came it. I figure as it was swept out to sea, the weight of the truck with the engine up front would pull the nose down. So it floated like a fishing bobber until the bolts holding the box to the frame rusted and broke. The truck sank and the box kept floating with the harley weighing it down in the front and the open end in the air.
It's still pretty incredible that it made it all the wa More..

Good PR for Harley. Nothing wrong with that. They'll restore it by throwing it out and putting the plates on a new on is my best guess.

If they're smart, they'll also transfer the VIN code.
VIN = Vehicle Identification Number. The thing on your left dashboard.

It wouldn't be that hard for them to strip the bike to the frame, powder coat it, rebuild the motor, and they have all the parts, obviously. Trying to do a switch could come back to haunt them. Have faith that they have the ability to rebuild the actual bike.

Oh come on, I've dealt with Toyota for the last year. Doing the right thing and doing the fiscally right thing are two different stories. Who the hell wants to own a junker that's been at sea for a year?

If I replace the head of the ax and the handle... it aint the same ax dammit. What the hell are you going to restore? it bobbed on the ocean for a year, it is scrap metal.

@saul693 What the hell are you going to restore? 1000's of motorcycle shops would disagree. I've seen a lot worse get restored.

@saul693 the corrision wont be so bad they cant fix it, you can fill in holes. it was coated after all.

@GatewayMetalHead You can't fix pitting, once the holes are there, they're there for good even if you chrome it again, I would not trust my life on that bike, the frame could have hairline fractures the shop guys can't see, the welds are shot for sure, melt it down and make park benches with it.
