  • Saw an old documentary once about the blitz showing people walking up the road with wheelbarrows picking up body parts laying in the streets. It's something that tends to get glossed over in documentaries that bombing the cities wasn't just about knocking down buildings it was about killing people. Even the Allies had a campaign of specifically targeting civilians during world war 2 with the intention of breaking their will by blowing the shit out of them.

    • It didn't work in WW2 for any side involved. It never caused the "mass panic" imagined by Douhet in the 1920's. People continued to work and to function although their nerves were surely frayed. Moreover German aircraft production, despite massive strategic bombing, actually increased to an all-time high in 1944.
