  • I recently known some one who died due to a terminal illnesses, not close but still went to see him a few times, every time I went to see him he all ways said the nurses & doctors gave him the best care he could ever wish for. For a dieing man to say that made me happy knowing he was going to die in a vary good environment getting 24/7 care and which he was happy in.

Ellhow don't know why you posted this, this whole debate about our NHS should stop and leave the Americans to there's health plan and stop involving ours. Most of all when it says you live in York what has the best Hospital I have seen in Yorkshire.

Typical culture 'Look at me! I am better looking than you' When you got one of the greatest minds in the world who care what you look like? The world will not keep evolving into a better place with good looking people, its the minds and visions that have and will shape the world. Yeah maybe he should do an add for congress 'Look at me, helping the world to be a better place than you guys who sit there fight about idiotic things and never get any thing done.

Well, your friend is fortunate to not live in Liverpool.

The reason for the relevance is that any time the state has a vested interest in saving money by discontinuing treatment, the state, therefore, has a vested interest in moving people along the cycle of life. When that's the case, the bigger the bureaucracy, the more likely it is that the idea of "over-treatment" will be abused, and people cut off from treatment prematurely.

    This is about saving $$$$$$$$.

For the record, I love Britain.

Not enamored with the NHS, though.

  • The Daily Telegraph is a facist, right-wing, reactionary, piece of sh1t 'newspaper' read by people who wish Britain still had an empire. Only fit to wipe your arse on IMHO.

I guess that's a reason to completely dismiss the content of the letter written by physicians to the Telegraph...not.

    Fail.

  • THIS ARTICLE IS NOT EVEN CLOSE TO CORRECT.

Listen, if you want to be able to criticize the health care system you should work in it. Then, you might be able to understand what terminal patients look like and how to treat them best.

P.S.- The best option for the U.S. is a single-payer system much like the one you just criticized.

  • The real issue, it seems, is applying a blanket policy to a problem which is as individual as it can possibly be.

Bureaucracy always leads to the lack of individual assessment, and medical patients REQUIRE individual evaluation without compromise based on blanket policy.

I have seen people dying in hospitals. Some of them were in wards, not private rooms. The treatment is appalling. In my experience death is due to the staff withdrawing food and water when the patient is far gone. It is a horrible sight to behold.

The letter in question was written by people who work in the system.

    Single payer sucks.
