Obama - fetus is a "Potential Life"

Sept. 8, 2004: State Sen. Barack Obama says that a fetus is a
"Potential Life" and that viability is a moving target. With Obama, if that "potential life" survives an abortion, alive on the hospital table he would have a Doctor finish it off. Guess that's why he prefers to refer to it as only potential.

  • I'll stick with what Bible says about the breath of life. The soul is life. We aren't whole or truly alive without it. It enters with the first breath inhaled at birth and exits with the last breath exhaled at death.

    I've got to admit that I'm a bit skeptical over terminating a fetus that has managed to emerge whole in an abortion procedure. They have to make damn sure that the newborn hasn't taken it's first breath upon arrival. It's murder if it has, no matter how underdeveloped the fetus may More..

  • Technically a baby is still a fetus until 6 months or so after birth. They are born with only 10% brain functionality that then takes a lot of time to develop.

    This is because humans started walking upright and so had to give birth earlier in the development cycle due to pelvis restrictions.

    Dogs, cats, dolphins all give birth to fully developed offspring.

  • yeah, the "potential" tag is highly spurious. You might just as well say that the ova in a woman next door and the sperm in my body, considered together, are potential life. Even if such a statement is technically true it is at best hypothetical and at worst a descent into mere semantics. Better to consider that something either is a life or it is not.
