China Steam, Daban Shed

Daban Shed, the Last Working Mainline Steam Shed in the World. Here the engines were coaled and serviced prior to the arduous trek over the Jingpeng Pass. These QJ Class 4,000 HP 146 ton machines were massive, with 12 tons of coal and 10,000 gallons of water they'd haul heavy freight trains all day long. They're now gone from Mainline use having been replaced by diesel electrics but a few have been preserved in working museums and the like. Of interest is the Steam Crane used to move the coal around the depot, a true relic but still doing the job it was designed to do - a 100 years on!

some of the best China Steam filming I've seen so far, you can almost smell that steam and hot oil
