No corporation has the authority to acquire cronyism, but the government has the power to. No corporation has the incentive to acquire cronyism where the government has not tread. Only in areas where government has decided to pick winners and losers, redistribute, punish, limit, reward, or subsidize does an entity (individual or corporation) then have a stake or interest in the outcome, and thus a need to be represented in a way that specifically benefits them without regard to other entities.
Sometimes business use government's propensity for interference to limit competition for the reasons stated in this short video.
The greatest errors on thinking of government are thinking that a noble goal results in the intended noble result and that governments can be used as instruments of benevolence. Let not the King's red carpet fool you on your path to the dungeons. Authority granted is not easily relinquished without blood shed.

Jesse Jackson threatened to stir up blacks to boycott Coors, so to buy him off, Coors gave each a Jackson's sons a Coors distributorship worth $30 million each.
JJ's doing well for a guy who used to spit in the food of white people when he worked as a waiter. (See his autobiography.)

'...But that solution may very well be part of the problem. When you give the government the power to pick winners and losers in the economy, the rich and the well-connected, WILL be the winners.'
Sums it up perfectly.

Adam Smith defined what we today call cronyism or corporatism as Mercantilism in The Wealth of Nations. Same shit, same stink.

@Ally_Gator "Wtf does 'acquire cronyism' mean?"
Cronyism is partiality to long-standing friends, especially by appointing them to positions of authority, regardless of their qualifications. Corporations cannot initiate this favoritism in areas where the federal government has no influence, nor would it provide a benefit to do so. Cronyism is "acquired", initiated, or enabled by those with the power to punish or reward, ie gov't.

Okay, but I think you underestimate interlocking boards of directors - especially when "outside" directors get positions on compensation committees.
IMO, this is the biggest reason that CEO packages have gotten so out of hand...
Oh, and I withdraw my snide remark about your writing....lol
