A wild black bear has attacked a man in a hot tub at a ski resort in western Canada.



The 55-year-old holidaymaker was left with lacerations to the back of the head after the beast had swiped out with its paw. He was taken to the local Whistler Health Care Center for treatment.



Police rapidly located the bear about 100 meters away from the tub as it made a dash for a wooded area. A police statement released later revealed the animal had been destroyed, with police shooting and killing the spa-loving animal.



A necropsy will now be performed on the bear, “to determine the motivation for the attack,” the police statement added.



The man from Coquitlam, British Columbia said he “felt a heavy blow to the back of his head which propelled him forward in the hot tub”, Royal Canadian Mounted Police Staff Sergeant Steve LeClair said.



The man then “turned around and found himself face to face with a black bear. He yelled at the bear and retreated inside,” the statement added.
