The most important finding is that they identified a mode of failure (thermal expansion) that is not usually considered in structural design. These findings will ultimately make safer buildings.

That "sound" this moron refers to not have evidence of hearing (explosion) WAS heard just prior to the building collapse. Its all over the internet where a fireman is on the phone calling his wife and you hear a huge explosion and another fireman comes rushing up saying "we've got to get out, 7 is exploding!"
