The True Battle of Chernobyl Uncensored

The Battle of Chernobyl dramatically chronicles the series of harrowing
efforts to stop the nuclear chain reaction and prevent a second
explosion, to "liquidate" the radioactivity, and to seal off the ruined
reactor under a mammoth "sarcophagus." These nerve-racking events are
recounted through newly available films, videos and photos taken in and
around the plant, computer animation, and interviews with participants
and eyewitnesses, many of whom were exposed to radiation, including
government and military leaders, scientists, workers, journalists,
doctors, and Pripyat refugees.

  • We are seeing this grotesque drama played out now in sequel with Fukushima and the script hasn't been changed.
We will see the same lies and cover ups in Japan as before in Ukraine for the next couple of decades to come and only later, like Chernobyl will the world come to know the full scope of the catastrophe in Japan.

    • @Jake_Sully Iran is trying to protect itself while it is entirely surrounded by US military bases.

    • @Saros

So you're saying it's developing nuclear technology to protect itself.
But that means nuclear weapons, which they categorically deny.
Do you know something they/we don't?

'Entirely surrounded by US military bases' that's a tad on the fanciful side

    • @Jake_Sully You think its fanciful?

      http://www.antiwar.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/1.-us-bases-in-the-middle-east-a.jpg

If your borders looked like that and the US had already conducted wars on BOTH sides of you, how would YOU feel about acquiring nuclear weapons for national defense?

    • @Saros

again I stress entirely surrounded were your words, they're not, and the US no longer have military bases in Iraq

And being ratified signatories to the NPT, they are forbidden to acquire nuclear weapons.
The only military threat to them is if they are attempting to do so.

So it's simple really, no bombs, no threat, it's their choice

  • Gorbachev seems genuinely impressioned and inspired by the thought of how much damage his nuclear missiles aimed at the US would do to the world.

Which I find disturbing really. Not specifically about Gorbachev, but that leaders of nuclear powers somehow had NOT and maybe STILL not fully consider the global catastrophic damage of their nuclear arsenal?

And again, nothing specifically toward Gorbachev, I personally kind of like the man, but THIS is why voting for the guy you'd most feel comfor More..

  • 70 years ago scientists developed nuclear weapons to put a quick end to an interminable war, saving tens, maybe hundreds of thousands of lives.

On the other hand, it has put the entire human race on the precipice of catastrophe.

I like the video of RJ Oppenheimer looking back on what he unleashed upon the world. It shows a man with much circumspection and regret.
