if you tie a string to a steelwool pad . and light the pad on fire you can spin it up to produce an amazing light show... lol just light the steelwool you dont need to add any type of accelerant... enjoy
You don't even need to light it. Just use a simple 9 volt alkaline battery and rub it against the strands of steel wool. I've seen it done that way too. - Great post - voted!

i think the 9 volt battery is the way to go. peace
we use to do it when we were kids... very simple... take steel wool attach it to some kind of string or rope, light it and do what you see on the clip...

Actually the kid used a couple of brillo pads with the ends of them sandwiched between 2 disks of sandpaper. It looked pretty cool watching them spin after he fired them up and pulled the trigger.
