Okay fellow LiveLeakers, I would like to have your input on a personal matter.

Please keep your comments to the subject at hand.

29June, the wife and I went on a rather long road trip, we returned home 7July to find that our house had been broken into. Money and a handgun had been stolen, by my stepsons ex-girlfriend, they went their separate ways over a year ago. Yet over the year she continued to harass him and cause all sorts of issues.

As if breaking into my house and stealing from me wasn't bad enough, she was ignorant enough to send me and my wife texts saying that she had done so and pretty much bragged about it on FaceBook.

We called the Sheriffs Department and filed a report, and provided print outs of the texts and FaceBook comments on 8July.

Slam dunk case, a crime, an admission of guilt, right....nope, so very wrong.

I got curious as to why she continued to harass my wife and I on FB and Via texts, so on 11July I called the Sheriffs Dept to ask why she hadn't been arrested yet. I was told 1st, the deputy that took the report only works on Saturdays and Sundays and was not available to answer my questions and 2nd, the report had been sent to the Prosecuting Attorneys office.

Fine, so after I was done talking to the Sheriffs Dept, I called the PA......and was told that they had not yet recieved the report from the Sheriffs Dept.

This exchange went on for another 3 days.

23July, I called the PA's office again to ask if they had ever recieved the report from the Sheriffs Dept. and was told that yes, they had recieved the report, but the PA had elected to not file or pursue any charges against her, even with an admission of guilt.

Wanting to know why the PA had decided not to pursue the case, I asked to speak to him directly and was told by the PA's lead investigator the the PA was "out of town and would not be back in his office until next week.

So here it is, I've no idea what to do now, the PA sent a clear message that breaking and entering (a class C Felony in this area) and theft of money and or goods exceeding 500 dollars (a class A felony in this area) is no big deal, and they are not going to prosecute.

At this point, I'm open for suggestions.

  • Go straight down to the local politician's office and raise hell about it there, if that doesn't work ring up the local media and ask them to run the story. Then sit back and watch the cops trip over themselves trying to make it up to you.

  • Is it any wonder people hate cops.

They're always quick to give you a ticket -- actually helping you, not so much.

My teenager's whereabouts were unaccounted for one night -- we couldn't reach him by phone -- text, voice -- nothing. We called all the friends we knew, nowhere to be found.

Finally we called the cops because we were worried. They came over, took a report, and tried to do a triangulation of the cellphone.

Eventually our kid called in and apologized that he was hanging out with More..

    • @Saros Getting tossed in cuffs and thrown in the slammer would have solved the problem of him not making sure you knew where he was....

    • @skiman And get a police record? Really? He's not a problem kid, don't you think that's a little over the top for a run down battery?

    • @PimeTaradox Exactly. Insane. So I don't blame the OP for being pissed off. Typical experience with cops. No fucking help at all.

  • Keep being persistent, then start threatning them that if action isnt taken you will hire a lawyer and/or contact your local media about the lack of action by the ones who "protect and serve".

If that doesnt work then just tell them the girl has marijuana and they will be sure to kick her door in then!!

  • when speaking to lazy unmotivated people,

Speaking face to face is best method.
Next, talk to their boss. Keep going higher.

talk to police. They need to file the report.

Given current drama. Express fear that the crazy girl has a GUN now.

  • 1) Contact internal affairs and file a report on the sheriff. Try the state AG office too..

    2) If that doesnt work put up "wanted" posters around town with her photo and her written confession. Shame her into leaving town.

    3) upload the nude photos your son has of the girl onto facebook. Photoshop them first with pictures of the sherrif!

  • Take defensive measures with your property and family and take it up the food chain in regards to the Police.

Securing your house and some level of CCTV is a good place to start, always make sure you have a camera handy.

If the police just want to ignore you, do not stand for it, ask what the procedure is for dealing with this and be persistent.

    Best of luck.

  • Try small claims court. Call your local news media (print, tv, radio), go to politicians (local and state), and write opinion pieces like 'letters to the editor'.
