How not to release a Cougar from a snare;
1. Bring along a bunch of barking hounds to enrage and terrify the cougar.
2. Release the cougar from the leg snare, but send him off with a neck snare and long pole dragging along.

It'll come lose after a short while. Used to use those a lot when releasing bobcats from traps when hiking. Happened quite a lot and we always brought a short snare-stick.
