Results of Latest Study on Climate Change Impact to World Economy
Climate change is already contributing to the deaths of nearly 400,000 people a year and costing the world more than $1.2 trillion, wiping 1.6% annually from global GDP, according to a new study.
By 2030, the researchers estimate, the cost of climate change and air pollution combined will rise to 3.2% of global GDP, with the world's least developed countries forecast to bear the brunt, suffering losses of up to 11% of their GDP.

I have not even read the report yet, but as I looked into one of the two groups responsible for producing the report I found out that Connie Hedegaard, the European Union's climate chief, studied Literature and History. Her profession is listed as journalist. I'll save my opinion on their results after I have looked at them, but I can't say I have high hopes after learning a journalist by trade headed the study. Can't they find someone with a scientific background to lead these studies?

"Can't they find someone with a scientific background to lead these studies?"
That might interfere with the desired results.

Well since the history of the world includes numerous climate shifts i don't understand why people think it is Man-made (Or primarily man-made anyways)... Climate change happens regardless, and obviously it will effect lives and economies... The problem is governments throwing all the money at it thinking we can fix it somehow... Like everybody just throws away the evidence that climate shift isn't only normal, but an inevitable fact of nature

If someone is going to say that it is caused by burning fossil fuels, they have to balance the numbers against the revenue generated by the fosssil fuel business worldwide and the impact on the economy. You know, things like transportation of goods. Manufacturing. Having electricity. That sort of thing that contributes to GDP. If not for those things, what kind of GDP would most countries have? And would it be possible to fly halfway around the world to deliver aid to any countries? Do people st More..

try to explain this al gore: if we are supposedly destroying the earth by our carbon emmisions, why are all lifeforms on this planet carbon-based?? why is it bad to have more CO2, when plants breathe CO2?? how can there be a global warming crisis when antarctica has the most ice ever recorded??

@jake3223
I do hope your comment is a joke. A major contributing factor to climate change is that we have cut down large amounts of the rainforests that would get rid of the CO2. There are record low levels of ice in the arctic. I don't know if it will get to the worse case scenario that people predict but it certainly isn't to the benefit of the planet. I don't think it takes a genius to see that pumping out more and more CO2 while destroying the system that converts it to oxygen isn't a good More..

That's a valid point. But you speak as if trees are the only absorbers of CO². Other plants, including agriculture that replaces the trees, as well as oceans, seas, and lakes, absorb it, too. (And, yes, maybe not equally, and with unknown side effects.)

you must be joking to assume that cutting down rainforests is your only arguement for global warming.

@jake3223 If you haven't read any literature debunking these feeble arguements by now then you aren't trying to understand the problem. Keep your head in the sand it'll be fine, nothing to worry about.

I suffer to agree with anything the so called hand picked experts tell us these day's , the UN agenda 21 is at the core of all of this propaganda.

There are many agendas, sometimes agreeing, other times conflicting. Seldom does a pol have only one in play. But I agree that 21 is one of the most powerful, deceptive, dangerous, and hidden.

While I don't subscribe to the notion that the current Climate Change is primarily man-made, I believe climate averages are shifting. So, there is an impact to that, as we see in food prices and availability due to drought. But I don't believe the magnitude stated in this article, though, and, as far as projections go, it's all up in the air.

That global warming is occurring, and that the current trend is due to human activities, is clearly borne out by the science. This is the consensus view among atmospheric and climate scientists (the only people qualified to hold an opinion on the matter).

@weshard A "consensus" among a select group of scientists eager to have future grants and careers. They don't dare say anything else. None of the scientists who wanted their names taken off the list count? They are not qualified to have an opinion because they don't agree with the predetermined conclusion? That's rather cult-like thinking.

The only consensus is that man has contributed to the trend. To what degree (pun intended) is still in debate, at least with those who strive for scientific verification and validation, and not cultish factoids.

That all sounds rather paranoid and conspiratorial. Especially when you realise that conclusions, such as your own, arise from a few sentences that were cherry picked from thousands of hacked documents, and touted as evidence of a global hoax by so-called sceptics.
I place climate deniers in the same category as truthers, Moon hoax proponents, and creationists.

I agree, but it is only the climate scientists that can hope to answer that question through the science. Not politicians; not celebrities; and not amateur film makers.
