NEW YORK - Ladies and gentlemen, we have a new Guitar Hero champ.
The New York Times reports that 14-year-old Danny Johnson of Grapevine, Texas, set a world record on Wednesday in Guitar Hero III.
Danny recorded a score of 973,954 at an event sponsored by the Guinness Book of World Records at the Best Buy store in Midtown Manhattan, NY. He was on his way to hitting all 3,772 notes of DragonForce's song "Through the Fire and Flames," but he ended up breaking the blue button at 3,558. Previous record-holder Chris Chike, 17, set a record of 899,703 in Minnesota last August.
What's the trick to Danny's success? Strategically using "star power," which allows players to earn bonus points by giving their guitar a shake, like a real rock star.
"You really have a choice of using Star Power during Red Snake or during the Twin Solo," he said, referring to sections in "Through the Fire and Flames."
