Goblin sharks aren't anything new. They are neat though. That elongated snout acts like a metal detector and picks on the bio-electrics of it's prey.
And yes the Japanese probably would eat the thing. Look up the angler fish (monk fish, whatever) episode of Iron Chef. It's like eating a sack of fried snot with guts. Mmmmm...
