Ex-Officer Sentenced to 8 years on Child Porn Charges
MOUNT CARMEL, PA — A former Northumberland County police officer was
sentenced Tuesday in federal court on charges involving possessing child
pornography.
Blaine Handerhan, 56, was handed eight years in prison and must pay $75,000 in restitution.
Handerhan, a former Mount Carmel borough police officer, pleaded guilty to the charges in October 2011.
According to court documents, the charges stem from an investigation
of Handerhan’s computer at his home. State police found 147,070
pictures and 1,252 video files of child pornography on the hard drive.
