Growing number of US soldier suicides
Jonathan Bartlett lost his legs while fighting as a US army soldier in
Iraq. He recovered remarkably well and strove to graduate with a
business management degree and then got a job.
Two months ago,
however, he shot himself while in the shower, leaving a message to his
friends and family saying that he wanted to be forgotten.
While
Bartlett is not counted as a casualty of war as he no longer wore the
uniform, he joined the same fate as 154 active-duty US troops who
committed suicide in the first 155 days of the year alone.
Patty Culhane reports from Washington.

More casualties from suicides than combat.
Says it all, right there.
Deceive a moral man into doing immoral deeds and this is what the end result is when his conscience catches up with him.
Horribly fucking sad.

They're a mix of men either caught up in the military's "group think tunnel vision," immoral adventurers, or deluded crusaders.

Its the immoral adventurers who piss me off the most, especially when they belligerently proclaim themselves patriots.

This is what happens when soldiers are forced to fight bogus wars, wars that have nothing to do with defending America.
Meanwhile arms manufacturers continue to make huge profits off the backs of hard working US taxpayers.

@werdum12 The slant to it. Like all wars are bogus, no war has anything to do with defending the country (as if the person saying has access to every little bit of information pertaining to it even though it's mostly classified and nobody on our level has ever seen it), and the whole "you make guns therefore you are evil" thing. It's old, played out, and downright irritating.

I don't know what Iraq has to do with 9/11? This is ridiculous. Iraq has never had links to al-Qaeda. I think most people, especially Americans, think the Iraq war was about 09/11. It was about war and George Bush's religious fantasies according to him. He said ''God'' asked him to wage Iraq's war and that this was a crusade against ''Islamic Fascism''. If you have a president who is stupid like that, then this is what you get.

So he wanted to punish the people who did his country harm on 9/11, so he joined in to attack Iraq? I mean, nahh nevermind.

@Krupp
I think it'd be more accurate to say he "got sent to" Iraq. Soldiers can't pick and choose the wars into which they get tossed.
It was pretty clear he was greatly disappointed in having to serve in a war against a country that had fuckall to do with the 9/11 incident. And then to be injured like that in the process?
I don't think he should have killed himself, but I can sort of imagine a little of his anger and resentment.
Sad stuff.

Bush and Rumsfeld told him "you are either with us, or you are against us" and he took them seriously. Big mistake. Now he won't be easting any freedom fries anymore. They tasted like shit anyway.

It saddens me to hear stories like this. Unfortunately, we are fighting against a concept that we teach in the military. "When you have feeling tired, hurt or unsure; suck it up and drive on." When a soldier feel overwhelmed and suicidal, its hard to catch because his/her first instinct is not to talk about it but put it aside and keep fighting. By the time they realize where they are its too late and they can think about is 'its time to do this', time to stop thinking and start ac More..

I'd kill myself too, once I realized that I was just a tool for the MIC. The projected societal illusion that you can be happy and have a good life with no legs, after killing innocent people for for no civilized reason, is just a delusion.
