  • I read that only in the 50s (or was is 30s?) the USA started to turn into a "country of god". Before that there was never a mention of god or similar in anything like Dollar bills or laws, etc.
    Is that true?

    • @coolhund
This is true on some level. The DoI uses the word creator, but not god. "In god we trust" was added to currency in 1864. The "under god" part of the PoA was added in '54.

Some religious/theistic references are old, some are new.

  • Hahahah... I love this guy. Really tells it like it is.
I really need to use "bug nutty, bat shit crazy" more often in conversation.

  • Would like to see him moderate a Republican debate centered on religion and its influence on policy.

  • "band together to be different" is the one line we need to brand on the skin of the left & right. I'm tired of the phony religious morality from the Right, and I'm tired of the nanny state pro censorship Left.

Stay the fuck out of our lives!

  • It's not true that Catholics and Protestants just recently began collectively referring to themselves as Christians.

    Otherwise, pretty interesting.

  • Plus Thomas Paine's 'The Age of Reason', which rips shit into Christianity more than Hitchens or Dawkins ever have....was the most read book in C18th America, published that century

Ummm... not according to Ron Paul.

I believe he considers himself a Baptist. (but what does he know?)

From Ron Paul's 2012 election website:

“I have accepted Jesus Christ as my personal Savior, and I endeavor every day to follow Him in all I do and in every position I advocate.”

      -Ron Paul
