  • Nice work Frankie! It sounds scary, but I love the word "typhoon" though.

  • 100-KpH wind isn't powerful there. It's the rain that should get them to worry.

    • @Internecine I don't understand. So they are used to 100kph winds which makes it...not dangerous all of the sudden?

We had 100kph winds here a few days ago, and yes, in your house you are most likely safe, but it doesn't take much to turn random objects into lethal projectiles in a densely populated city at those wind speeds.

    • @cazmo Please! The Philippines is one Asia's barriers to Pacific typhoons where the most powerful storms come from. They are used to that kind of wind speed/gustiness. The strongest recorded in the Philippines was more than 300 KpH. It's the flooding that causes the damage there.

Historically the parts of the Philippines that used to be battered by these storms used to be the Central Philippines (Eastern Visayas region) going up West or the Southern Luzon Region going up West. But now, it is More..

    • @cazmo So this storm turns out to the be the one I didn't quite expect: A diameter of 500 miles, maximum gustiness at 190 mph, slightly reducing to 150 mph by landfall, rains up to 50 mm per hour and the parts of the Philippines taking a direct hit... Well, the eastern islands of the Visayas this time.

This storm is massive, devastating, and exceptionally strong even by cat. 5 standards.
